1. About this policy

Data Menu Limited uses cookies and similar technologies on datamenu.co.uk. This policy explains which ones, why, and how to control them. For more about how we handle personal information, see our Privacy Policy.

2. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage and session storage, work in much the same way. We call all of these "cookies" in this policy.

Some cookies are essential for the website to work. Others are optional and help us understand how people use the site, or are set by services we load only with your consent, such as our Motion booking calendar.

3. Your choices

When you first visit, our cookie banner asks whether you accept optional cookies. Nothing optional loads unless you choose to accept. Essential cookies don't need your consent because the site cannot work properly without them.

You can change your choice at any time using "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page, or with the button below. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although parts of the site, such as signing in, may then stop working.

4. Essential cookies

These are always on. They only do what is needed to run the site and the services you ask for.

dm_session (cookie)

Keeps you signed in to your account securely. Set only when you sign in. Lasts 30 days, or until you sign out.

dm_auth (cookie and local storage)

Tells the site that you are signed in, so it can show the right menus. Set only when you sign in. Lasts 30 days, or until you sign out.

dm_consent_v1 (local storage)

Remembers your cookie choice so we don't ask again on every page. Stays until you clear your browser storage or change your choice.

dataMenuLastOrder and checkout keys (local and session storage)

Remember your most recent order so you can get back to your download after paying. Session storage clears when you close the tab.

announcement:<id> (local storage)

Remembers that you closed a site announcement so it isn't shown again.

Tool preferences (local storage)

Some free tools, such as the emoji converter, remember your favourites and recent items on your own device. This information is not sent to us.

5. Analytics cookies (optional)

Only used if you accept optional cookies. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are visited and how people find us, so we can improve the site. Google Analytics is not loaded in account, billing, dashboard or admin areas.

_ga (Google Analytics)

Tells visits apart by giving your browser a random ID. Lasts 2 years.

_ga_48LTQ38EMP (Google Analytics)

Keeps track of your current visit (session) for our Google Analytics property. Lasts 2 years.

dm_ga_purchases_v1 and dm_ga_cancel_* (local and session storage)

Make sure a purchase or a cancelled checkout is only counted once in our analytics.

Google's own policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

6. LinkedIn Insight Tag (optional)

Only used if you accept optional cookies. The LinkedIn Insight Tag helps us understand visits from LinkedIn and measure our LinkedIn campaigns. LinkedIn may set cookies including:

li_sugr

Helps LinkedIn match a visit to a LinkedIn member. Lasts 3 months.

bcookie

Identifies your browser to LinkedIn. Lasts 1 year.

lidc

Helps LinkedIn route traffic between its data centres. Lasts 1 day.

UserMatchHistory and AnalyticsSyncHistory

Used by LinkedIn to sync visits and measure campaigns. Last 30 days.

li_fat_id

Helps LinkedIn link a visit to an ad click. Lasts 30 days.

LinkedIn's cookie policy is at linkedin.com/legal/cookie-policy. We don't currently use Google Ads, Meta (Facebook) or other advertising cookies.

7. Other services on our pages

Some pages include services from other companies. These companies may set their own cookies under their own policies:

  • Motion: the booking calendar on our Book a call page is provided by Motion and sets its own cookies when it loads. We only load it after you accept optional cookies, either in our cookie banner or with the button on that page. Until then we show a placeholder and our email address instead, so you can still book. You can withdraw your consent at any time through "Cookie settings".
  • Stripe and PayPal: payments take place on Stripe's or PayPal's secure checkout pages, which use their own cookies for security and fraud prevention.
  • YouTube and Vimeo: some articles include videos. YouTube videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.
  • Font Awesome: our icons are loaded from Font Awesome's servers. This does not set cookies, but Font Awesome receives your IP address.

8. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when we add, remove or change cookies, and show a new "Last updated" date. If we add a new type of optional cookie, we will ask for your consent again.
